Planning for the Nights

Due to the mediocre weather forecast for the Galilean Nights and especially the last day, the Sirius bureau prepared a plan B. From left to right, Jamal, Kamel, Bakir, Mourad and Imene. Younès not seen here, is taking the picture.

Planning for the Nights

Guidance from the stars. The lights of Constantine in the background.

The Emir Abdelkader Mosque where the public sighting took place at its esplanade.

Another daytime view of the Emir Abdelkader Mosque corridor where the public gathering took place on the second night (See below)...

The first observing Galilean Night on Friday night graced us with a great cloudless sky.

In addition to telescopic observations in the Galilean spirit, we had sky map reading sessions with the public.

The newly acquired Newtonian 150mm put in use.

Here Shaikh Bourkab, a well knownl Imam using the opportunity to admire Jupiter's satellites with this high powered scope. Behind him is a banderol stating: 'Galilean Night... 400 Years of Sky observing'

The 300mm Dobsonian telescope in action to follow the ballet of Jupiter's moons.

Cluttering around the Meade ETX 90mm: A night of emotion and sharing.

Many groups were there, distributed all over the Emir Abdelkader Mosque plaza and receiving expert instructions from the Sirius members.

The palm of dedication went to this family who came all the way from Sedrata close to the Tunisian border so as to be present with us that night. Here standing with them is Kamel the Sirius Vice President (with glasses).

Lasering the way...

Following Jupiter now close to the Western horizon.

Sweeping the sky at low magnification.

Using high powered binoculars for sighting Jupiter's moons

- Galileo in the Jupiter Globe.

The Second Night ... Putting Plan B into Action

What to do when a fully homogeneous overcast sky shows up to spoil your observing session like it happened on the second Galilean night at Constantine? Turn to Plan B !

Using the walls of the Emir Abdelkader Mosque as a screen. Probably never has wall mosques been used that way !

Here Mourad explaining to the public some finer observing points.

Learning about the sky.

What better way to learn about the Sky than getting map reading proficiency?

The National TV was there to cover the event. It was broad-casted at both the 1:00am and the 6:00pm National News and seen by millions of viewers. Here the ENTV team interviewing Farès from the Sirius Association.

Here Bakir providing explanations on manipulating a telescope.

The Mosque majestic arches created a unique ambiance.

Whow! What's a memorable night !
