Fifth National Salon in Popular Astronomy
Rising to the Challenge

The
yearly National Salon in Popular Astronomy will start this year
right after the Ramadhan. It will coincide with the commemoration
of the 1st of November 1954 uprising, which started the Algerian
war of liberation. The Salons started in 2002, formerly known
as the Constantine Salons in Popular Astronomy and linked to
the International Space Week celebrations. The Salons have become
along the years a much-prized yearly rendezvous for the amateur
astronomers throughout Algeria.
This year will see a wider participation from
associations from abroad. In particular, the AUASS from Jordan,
the SAF from France, and others which will confirm soon. In
addition to the Salon held in the exposition hall of the Palais
de la Culture, there will be a series of public lectures and
specialized workshops.
This year's theme has been chosen to be: Listening to the
Universe. It will bring to the public the immense advances
of the astronomy and space sciences in its ability to obtain
a more and more accurate picture of the Universe we live in.
Indeed, through the use of sophisticated tools to probe it at
various wavelengths and through various means; We mention the
huge telescopes on Earth using adaptative optics and interferometry
techniques coupled with new detectors, the interplanetary probes
reaching to all the directions in the Solar system and in all
kinds of environments. In addition, a whole new pan of astronomy
is uncovering itself before our very eyes called exoplanetary
astronomy. It will no doubt discuss the controversy about Pluto's
statute, the pros and cons of the new IAU definition of planets.
It is befitting for the Algerian public to be cognizant of these
new scientific avenues opening up.

Cinquième Salon National d'Astronomie Populaire

Comme
chaque année, Sirius organise une grande kermesse de
l'astronomie à Constantine qui est le rendez-vous majeurde
l'année pour les astronomes amateurs. Au programme, un
salon proprement dit ou exposent les différentes agences
nationales liées au spatial, la météo la
sismologie, la navigation aérienne, ainsi que les différents
clubs et associations qui présentent leurs réalisations
scientifiques. De plus sont organisés des conférences
débats, ateliers et concours qui lui donnent un cachet
propre. Cette manifestation est ouverte au public et accueille
chaque année de très nombreux visiteurs.
Le thème cette année est: A l'Ecoute de l'Univers,
qui se focalisera sur les immenses progrès de l'Astronomie
à travers les différentes longueurs d'onde, et
les découvertes étonnantes dans l'exploration
planétaire.
